Indians, stay

At the beginning of the year a group of Indians built huts and settled on Camboinhas Beach on the outskirts of the city of Niterói (in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil).

The huts were built by some 50 members of the Guarani ethnicity because the beach was their ancestral property, where indigenous cemeteries of archaeological importance are located.

The inhabitants of Camboinhas residential neighborhoods had begun a process to force the authorities to expel the Indians from the valuable beach property, but that has been suspended while Funai studies the truth of the Indians' argument.

A fire has recently destroyed six huts built by this group.

Dear Indians, this doesn´t change anything, don´t give up and stay, this land belongs to you.

The naming of Brazil

1)One of the most thorough examinations of the phoneme "brz" is associated with the color red, tracing its origins to ancient Middle Eastern history.

2) Brazil was the name of an island of medieval Celtic legend, supposedly west of Ireland ("Brasil" is bisected island southwest of "Hibernia") and visited by St. Brendan in the early Middle Ages. That island, "Hy Brazil" was recounted in the novel Summer of the Red Wolf by Morris L. West to be a "blessed stormless isle, where all men are good and all the women pure and where God retreats for a recreation from the rest of us."

3) The word "brazil" is associated with a type of dyewood tree (Caesalpinia sappan) that grew in the Indian regions of the Portuguese empire.

As pessoas realmente gostariam de ver notícias boas também publicadas com destaque nos jornais e na TV. A linha editorial predominante na mídia tem privilegiado massivamente e infelizmente as notícias ruins, sem muita noção (?) de que assim essas notícias ganham visibilidade, alento, gás, em uma proporção inversa muitas vezes ao espaço que alguns gostariam de usar para fazer denúncias construtivas. Outros estão simplesmente criando e alimentando a indústria da má notícia e dando vazão a uma patológica curiosidade mórbida. Ganha-se dinheiro publicando e disseminando más notícias??? Um sequestrador é entrevistado ao vivo enquanto sequestra, o público assiste vorazmente e os anunciantes pagam para que um programa assim vá ao ar!? A apresentadora do programa tem noção do que fez?

Que tal usarmos a Internet para invertemos essa tendência? É possível!

Vamos dar visibilidade a meninos como esses! Atitutes como essas é que merecem o nosso olhar, o nosso carinho, a nossa atenção.

(Aliás, se alguém algum dia conseguir identificar os meninos, ou identificar o autor das fotos, por favor me avise, para que possamos dar os devidos créditos.)

Never mind, e-mail sender would like to see news like this published as well in any medium, newspaper, or at the TV.
